The Great Aviva Road Trip

10th August, 2023: The Great Aviva Road Trip kicked off in style this week at Beyond the Trees Avondale and the Treetop Walk, with the winners coming to visit us on their very first stop. Aviva, in partnership with Citroën, has given these lucky winners the opportunity to travel across Ireland and experience some fantastic home-grown family fun, all in an eco-friendly hybrid vehicle, to see the sights of the Emerald Isle up close.

With sustainability at the heart of Beyond the Trees Avondale, from electric car chargers to buildings made from Irish wood, including the super adventure playground next to the Seed Cafe, Aviva’s idea of a eco-friendly road trip was a great initiative.

Accessibility too is very important at Beyond the Trees Avondale. If you’ve got limited mobility, it’s still an experience you can enjoy because the gradients are so gentle so it affords a wide range of people the opportunity to enjoy the experience and the spectacular views from the top of the viewing tower. The biodiversity of the estate and the chance it affords to connect to nature is what makes it all so special.

The first of its kind in Ireland, the fully accessible Treetop Walk and Viewing Tower takes everyone to the very heart of the forest at Avondale, and beyond. It is the birthplace of Irish forestry and this story is told through an interactive exhibition in the Coillte Pavilion as well as through guided tours of Avondale House, the home place of famous Irish Politician, Charles Stewart Parnell and his family.

On their Great Aviva Road Trip, the Murphy family loved spotting the huge array of wildlife along the treetop walk and learning all about the Wicklow landscape. There are lots of learning stations along the walkway that are both fun and educational. The interactive forest bird clock with all the different bird sounds was a favourite for the boys too, as was watching the other visitors go down the 90-metre slide! We were delighted to welcome the Murphy family, and we hope they’ll visit again soon.
